The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have successfully carried out a significant operation against drug trafficking in the Makeni Division, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a large quantity of illegal drugs.

The operation was spearheaded by CSP Abu Bakarr Magona and was initiated after a distress call from officers stationed at the Makoth checkpoint. According to reports, the officers informed their command that a commercial vehicle, registered as AQG299, had forcefully evaded a routine search and sped away toward Makeni, raising immediate concerns about potential criminal activity.

Swiftly acting upon the information, it was reported that CSP Magona mobilized an operations team, which successfully intercepted the vehicle at Ladies Mile, a busy area known for local commerce. Upon conducting a thorough search, officers uncovered 170 parcels of cannabis sativa concealed within the vehicle, along with cash amounting to NLe68,000, further indicating the scale of their operations.

Report further revealed that the suspects have been identified as Amadu Jawara, a 35-year-old resident of Kabala Town, and Alhaji Sitta Jalloh, a 28-year-old living on No. 7 Yeli Sanda Road in Makeni. Both individuals were apprehended without resistance and immediately taken into custody for further investigation.

The confiscated drugs and cash are said to have been secured at the Rogbaneh Police Station, where police authorities are continuing their inquiries into the operation. Investigators are working to determine any larger networks involved in the drug trade and to gather additional evidence against the suspects.

The Sierra Leone Police expressed their commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the region describing their operation and a testament that underscores their dedication to ensuring public safety and upholding the law.
