In a landmark judgment delivered on Monday, August 25, 2025, Magistrate Harold Kamara of the Mile 91 Magistrate Court sentenced Foday Turay, a resident of the town, to six months’ imprisonment or pay a fine of six hundred Leones (NLe 600) for assaulting his neighbour, Mariatu Tejan Thullah. Turay was arraigned before the court on August 4, 2025, on two counts of assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
According to the particulars of the offense, Turay’s actions left the victim wounded and in pain. The victim, Mariatu Tejan Thullah, had reported the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Mile 91 Police Station, leading to Turay’s arrest. Following a thorough investigation and several court appearances, Magistrate Kamara found Turay guilty, citing overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution headed by Sub-Inspector Ibrahim Forkie Kamara.
In his ruling, the magistrate emphasized the importance of dispensing justice fairly and punishing those who commit offenses against others. “The testimony of the prosecution witnesses implicated you, and I hereby sentence you to six months’ imprisonment or you pay a fine of six hundred Leones to the State,” Magistrate Kamara declared. Additionally, the court ordered Turay to compensate the victim with one thousand five hundred Leones (NLe 1,500).
