In Bo Town’s Towama community, a man identified as Mohamed Moseray was caught attempting to steal a security light from a street pole.
According to eyewitnesses, Moseray had already successfully stolen one light and was in the process of removing a second when he was apprehended by community members.
Upon being questioned about his motives, Moseray admitted that he had stolen the light due to the harsh economic conditions currently affecting the country. When asked how much he intended to sell the stolen light for, he responded, “100 leones,” a value far below the market price. His response has drawn attention to the growing struggles many individuals face amid rising living costs and limited job opportunities.
The incident has sparked discussions in the community about the rising trend of petty theft in response to the economic crisis in Sierra Leone. Local authorities have been notified of the incident, and Moseray is expected to face legal consequences for his actions.
