Aloysius Borbor Barbar, a 46-year-old development officer, made an appearance before Magistrate Mark Ngegba of Court No.1 for allegedly defrauding the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).

The accused (Aloysius Borbor Barbar) is charged on 84 counts ranging from conspiracy to defraud, forgery, uttering forged documents, making false statements, furnishing false statements, and causing money to be paid by pretenses all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the charge sheet on count 1, the accused on a date unknown between the 15th of 2019 and 23rd February 2021, in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District, with intent to defraud, conspired together with another person unknown and defrauded the National Social Security and Insurance Trust and obtained survivors benefits by forging certificates of native marriage.

On the other counts, the accused on the same date and place presented a false/forged certificate and received over Le200 million by saying Amie Mary Tua is his wife with the pretext of claiming survivors benefits which are known to be false.

The count sheet was read before the accused.

Count 1 stated that on a date unknown between 15 July 2019 and 23 February 2021 in Kaku Chiefdom. Bo District in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone with intent to defraud, conspired together with an unknown and defrauded the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) and obtained survivors’ benefits by forging certificates of a native marriage contrary to law.

Counts 2&3 states that on a date unknown between 15 July 2019 and 23 February 2021 at the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Regional south Office in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District in the Southern province of Sierra Leone, with intent to defraud, forged and uttered on the certificate of native marriage with a general receipt number 61272/09, purporting that it was prepared by the Bo District. Council is contrary to sections 4(1) and 6(1) of the Forgery Act of 1913.

Count 4&5 stated that Aloysius Borbor Barbar on Tuesday 14 August 2012 and 15 July 2009, at the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Regional B south Office in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District in the Southern province of Sierra Leone, made a false statement that Amie Mary Tua Co is your wife with the pretext of claiming survivors’ benefit knowing said to be false. Counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 stated that on 1 October 2013 to 28 February 2014, at the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Regional south Office in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District in the Southern province of Sierra Leone, fraudulently caused the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) to pay the sum of Le50,654.38 to Aloysius Borbor Barbar who purported to be the legally wedded husband of the late Amie Mary Tua knowing the same to be false.

Counts 11 to 44 stated that on 1 March 2014 to 31 December 2016 at the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Regional south Office in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District in the Southern province of Sierra Leone, fraudulently caused the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) to pay the sum Le60,785.25 to Aloysius Borbor Barbar who purported to be the legally wedded husband of the late Amie Mary Tua, knowing same to be false.

Counts 45 to 84 stated that from 31 December 2016 to 31 December 2019 at the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Regional Office in Kakua Chiefdom, Bo District in the Southern province of Sierra Leone, fraudulently caused the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) to pay Le100,000 to Aloysius Borbor Barbar who purported to be the legally wedded husband of the late Amie Mary Tua, knowing same to be false.

The matter was adjourned to 17 March 2023.
