Police at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are investigating a certain man who was accused of plotting an impersonation on the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu and scammed businessman and politician, Mohamed Ormodu Kamara alias Jagaban.
The suspect together with another person who impersonated IG Sellu is said to have defrauded Jagaban the whopping sum of NLe 187,000.
Police say the man contacted Jagaban and claimed that he was sent by the IG to collect the said money for a vehicle.
The alleged victim said he phoned a number presumed to be the IG who ordered him to give the money to the man.
Head of Operations at the CID, Joshua Moosa said the man made a confessionary statement while claiming that he took the money to Lumley.
Police are yet to indicate whether the money has been retrieved or not. However, the suspect is said to be in police custody assisting with investigation.
