Magistrate Harold Kamara of the Masiaka Magistrate Court in Port Loko District has committed Marouf Farouk Kamara to the High Court to stand trial for unlawful possession of ammunition without a license.

The ruling was delivered on February 27, 2026, in Criminal Session Case No. 064/2026, following Kamara’s arrest on December 2, 2024, at the Port Loko Road checkpoint in Masiaka Town.

Court documents indicate that the defendant was found in possession of a 7.62 by 39mm calibre live round without lawful authority, contravening Section 22(1) of the Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition Act No. 24 of 2023.

The prosecution, led by Sergeant 7716 Sesay A.M., presented evidence including witness statements, a ballistic examination report, and the defendant’s voluntary cautioned statement, confirming possession of the ammunition.

Magistrate Kamara ruled that a prima facie case had been established, citing the credible evidence presented. The defendant will remain in custody pending trial before the High Court of Justice.

The case underscores Sierra Leone’s ongoing efforts to combat illicit arms possession and ensure public safety. The High Court trial will determine the defendant’s guilt or innocence.
