Justice Monfred Sesay, on Tuesday, 28 February 2023, sentenced one John Alie to 7 years imprisonment at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center for housebreaking contrary to Section 25 (1) 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.
The accused (John Alie) was arraigned before the Court on a one-count charge of housebreaking and Larceny contrary to section 25 (1) 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916 and section 13 (a) of the Larceny of 1916.
The accused, on Tuesday, 29 September 2020, entered the residence of the plaintiff (Samuel Karakey Conteh) in Freetown and stole property valued at two million three hundred and fifty thousand old Leones (Le 2,350,000,000)

In his judgement, Justice Monfred Sesay, said the accused on the night of the incident, was noticed by the complainant’s daughter at the back of their compound around 2:am.
He explained that when the plaintiff’s daughter called for help, the accused defected his clothes on her.
Justice Monfred Sesay continued that all witnesses’ prosecution has proven beyond all reasonable doubt against the accused person.
He therefore, according to sections 25 (1) 2 and 13 (a) of the 1916 Larceny Act sentenced the accused to seven years imprisonment at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center.
In her plea for relief on behalf of the accused, the defence lawyer R A Bangura, from the Legal Aid Board, stressed that the accused is a young man with a lot of potential.
She pleaded with the presiding judge to tamper justice with mercy but to no avail.
