A man identified as Abass Sesay has been apprehended by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology following allegations that he was fraudulently collecting money from students.

The incident occurred earlier today at the university’s Makeni campus in Makeni, where the suspect was reportedly posing as a lecturer and offering false academic opportunities to unsuspecting students.

According to reports, Sesay allegedly promised scholarships, examination assistance, and other academic favours in exchange for cash payments. Several students are believed to have been approached with the offer before suspicions arose about his identity and claims.

The Students’ Union Government at the university swiftly intervened after receiving complaints from students. The SUG leadership moved to apprehend the suspect on campus before further action could be taken.

The SUG Minister of Internal Affairs confirmed the incident, stating that the student leadership acted quickly once the alleged scam was uncovered in order to protect students from further exploitation.

The suspect is expected to be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation as efforts continue to determine the number of students who may have been affected by the alleged scheme.

University authorities and student leaders have since cautioned students to remain vigilant and verify the identity of individuals claiming to represent the institution before engaging in any financial transactions.
