Magistrate John Manso Fornah of Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 in Freetown on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, sentenced Lamin Kamara to 18 months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre after he pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny.
Kamara was charged with larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the police charge sheet, the offence occurred on 18 June 2026 at Malama Thomas Street in Freetown, where the convict allegedly stole one large bundle containing 58 dozen T-shirts, each dozen valued at Le250, with a total value of Le14,500. The items were the property of Mariatu Savage.
When the charge was read and explained to him, Kamara pleaded guilty. In mitigation, he appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy.
In delivering his ruling, Magistrate Fornah sentenced Kamara to 18 months’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Centre. However, the court ordered that if the convict returns the stolen T-shirts or pays their equivalent value of Le14,500 to the complainant, he will not be required to serve the custodial sentence. The magistrate further ordered that the sentence should run in full if the condition is not met.
