A 25-year-old man, Joseph Sao Amara, has been remanded in custody following a charge of sexual penetration, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act 2012, as repealed and replaced by Section 4(a)(ii) of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 2019.
According to the particulars of offence, the alleged incident occurred on December 26, 2023, in Freetown, involving a child under the age of 18.
The matter was heard at the Criminal Session of the Sexual Offences Court No. 7, located on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown. When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, Joseph Sao Amara, he pleaded not guilty. He was unrepresented by legal counsel.
Justice Momoh-Jah Stevens denied him bail and remanded him to the Male Correctional Facility. The matter was adjourned to April 30, 2025 for further hearing.
