An unemployed man, Alhaji Dumbuya, was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to housebreaking and larceny at the Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown.
Dumbuya, who appeared before Magistrate Kekura on his first court appearance, was charged with breaking into the house of Sallay Kamara at Turay Compound, New England Village, on Thursday, 6th March 2025.
According to the charge, Dumbuya stole five five-gallon containers of rubber, each valued at forty Leones, totaling two hundred Leones, in addition to two thousand five hundred Leones in cash, bringing the total value of the stolen goods to two thousand seven hundred Leones.
When the charge was read to Dumbuya, he admitted to the crime, pleading guilty in open court.
In delivering his verdict, Magistrate Kekura sentenced Dumbuya to one year in prison, but also offered an alternative of paying one thousand Leones as a fine. Dumbuya agreed to pay the fine and was immediately granted his release upon payment.
