The management of the Masai Mara National Reserve has publicly refuted claims circulating in media and social media suggesting that a group in Sierra Leone has engaged with the reserve to facilitate a lion parade on April 6, 2025.

In an official statement issued on March 29, 2025, the Masai Mara National Reserve clarified that it does not engage in parading lions or allowing their use for circus-related activities.

The management emphasized that such practices violate Kenya’s Wildlife Conservation and Management Act of 2013 and contradict the reserve’s commitment to wildlife conservation and safety.

“Our primary commitment is to the conservation and protection of wildlife in their natural habitat. We do not have any prior notice or agreement with the mentioned organizers regarding such an event,” the statement read.

The management strongly advised the public and media to disregard these rumors, labeling them as misleading and damaging to the reserve’s reputation. The statement further emphasized the reserve’s dedication to maintaining the welfare of its animals and upholding the integrity of its conservation efforts.

“We kindly advise the public and media to disregard those rumors as they are misleading and portray a negative impression of our park and its mission. The welfare of our animals and the integrity of our conservation efforts are of utmost importance to us,” the statement added.

Masai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife conservation areas, is globally recognized for its efforts in protecting diverse animal species, including the famous Big Five. The reserve’s firm stance on ethical wildlife conservation aligns with its long-standing policies against any form of animal exploitation
