On Friday 4th November 2022, on cross-examination by Mayor’s defense counsel, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, Inspector Mohamed Jusu was on Friday 4th November 2022 in the open court stated in his cross-examination that Yvonne Aki Sawyerr the current sitting Mayor of Freetown was not violent when making her live video at the Police Station.

He made this statement before the Principal Magistrate of the Freetown Magistrate Court No 1 Mr. Mark Ngeba when he was been cross-examined by the lead defense counsel Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara on behalf of his client.

Answering questions from the Defense Counsel, inspector Jusu said…. and referring to Exhibit E his report said that he signed the report on 11th October 2022 adding that in his report he reached a conclusion based on his finding. Jusu continued to respond to the question that from his analysis it was a live video done for multiple viewers and the video he stated was not addressed to the Police. He further stated that the Mayor was talking to the public and the Police inclusive when making her video.

Just further stated that the Mayor in her video was talking about the arbitral arrest and she has the right to do it within the ambit of the law; and added that there is nothing wrong in talking about arrest without warrants.

The witness also said that the Mayor did not touch any officer whilst making her live video but she prevented officers from doing their work.

He was asked to show the area in the video where the Mayor prevented the officers from doing their work, and the witness played the video and there was nothing shown relating to how the Mayor was talking and the vigor she exercised in putting out her outrage that will disturb the Police from performing their duty…

The question was put to him that he did not have the competent professionalism to talk on that, and the witness said he hasn’t the competence to comment on that.

The Police witness told the Court that he was not biased in his investigation. The video was replayed again for the second time and now agree that the mayor did not say turmoil.

Page three and four of the statement was shown to the witness, in his report he said the Mayor was very angry and he should show the court the formula in which he used to get to the conclusion, and he said he viewed the video and came to the conclusion, which he said he has the competence to tell the state of mind of a person. He was asked if the mayor was violent and replied that the Mayor was not violent at the station.

Magistrate Ngegba adjourned the matter to 14th November 2022. Bail continues.
