The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) in a press release dated 7th February 2025, condemned the alleged involvement of the Free Quality Education Regional Coordinator North into a sexual Assault matter of a minor involving his official driver.
According to the press release, the information got to the Ministry through a social media post after the Coordinator allegedly threatened the victim and her mother, suggesting that no action would be taken.
The Ministry has condemned the action which it refers to as misconduct and violence laying emphasis on minors.
The release also stated that safeguarding the well-being of students, particularly girls, is a top priority of the Ministry, adding that any allegations of abuse or misconduct are taken very seriously and swift action is normally required.
The release continue that the Ministry upon learning about the social media post, immediately initiated an internal investigation into the matter, as its primary concern is ensuring the safety and welfare of the victim and providing necessary support to her and her family during this challenging time.
“We understand the importance of justice and accountability in such cases and will work closely with relevant authorities to ensure that due process is followed,” the Ministry said.
Furthermore, the release clearly stated that, the Ministry does not condone any form of intimidation, interference, or attempts to cover up such serious allegations, as its expect full cooperation from all parties involved, as it has officially reported the matter to the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police.
An internal investigation has been established by the Ministry as a matter of priority, the release states.
“The Ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to creating a safe and secure learning environment for all students. We urge anyone with information on such incidents to come forward and report them through appropriate channels. Together, we can work towards a society where every child is protected and their rights are upheld,” the press release concluded.
