Pademba Road Court No. 2 has ordered that two young men stand trial at the High Court after ruling that sufficient evidence exists in an alleged assault case involving serious injuries.

Alimamy Mohamed Bangura, 25, and Bai Bangura, 26, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, on charges of causing grievous bodily harm, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The matter relates to an incident alleged to have occurred on Thursday, 15 January 2026, at Phase 1 Gbangbayillah, Hill Station, Freetown. According to police, the accused intentionally attacked John Lefevre, resulting in serious injuries.

During the committal proceedings, the charges were read and explained in open court. The accused did not enter a plea, as the matter is indictable and reserved for trial at the High Court.

In delivering his ruling, Magistrate Fornah stated that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence, including caution statements and exhibits, to justify a full trial. He therefore committed the accused to the High Court for further proceedings.

The prosecution was led by Police Constable 18235 Thoronka K, while S.I. Koroma represented the defence.

Despite the committal, the court granted bail to both accused in the sum of Le 50,000 each, with sureties required to produce an equivalent amount. The sureties must be responsible residents of Freetown with fixed addresses and valid National Voter or National ID cards. Bail was granted pursuant to Section 116(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 2024, pending approval by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.

The case will now proceed to the High Court, where the two men will face trial to determine their culpability in the alleged assault.
