Magistrate Sahr Kekura has ordered the remand of Lapo Microfinance Bank Manager, Francesca Lawson, following her initial appearance before a magistrate court in Freetown.
Lawson, who was in charge of the Microfinance Bank in Makeni City, faced a 4-count charge, including conspiracy to defraud, embezzlement, forgery, and uttering forged documents.
The charges allege that Lawson, along with unidentified individuals, conspired to defraud Lapo Microfinance of Le 104,416,000 (One hundred and four million, four hundred and sixteen thousand Leones).
Police records indicate that Lawson allegedly embezzled a similar amount under fraudulent circumstances on the same date and at the same location. ASP Ibrahim Mansaray is leading the prosecution in this matter.
The court has adjourned the case until Friday, February 15, 2024, for further proceedings.
