The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), in collaboration with its partners, held a one-day technical to review and validate the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Kampala Diagnostics.
The exercise aims to guide Sierra Leone’s agricultural development agenda in alignment with continental commitments.
In his opening remarks, the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Abdulai Jalloh, stated that CAADP remains a notable programme across Africa whose efforts continue to shape agricultural development on the continent.
Prof. Jalloh highlighted key milestones of CAADP, including the Kampala Declaration on CAADP, which builds on earlier continental commitments such as the Malabo Declaration on Accelerated Agricultural Growth and Transformation for Shared Prosperity and Improved Livelihoods.
He encouraged participants to carefully review and analyze the documents, deepen their understanding of the findings, and identify areas requiring concrete action. He stressed that the ultimate goal is to ensure that these commitments do not remain declarations on paper but translate into real progress and tangible results for countries and communities.
During the workshop, a presentation was delivered on CAADP, focusing on data and analytics to support the Kampala NASIP design and updating process, as well as an analysis of the Kampala goals and milestones and Sierra Leone’s Policy and Program Opportunity (PPO) report.
The validation workshop brought together key stakeholders from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Food and Agriculture Organization, World Food Program, Environmental Protection Agency, National Fertilizer Regulatory Agency, Ministry of Trade and Industry, National Revenue Authority, and the Scaling Up Nutrition Movement (SUN) Secretariat, PI CREP, SLeSCA, SLARI, SLeCAD among others.
