Mohamed Gento Kamara, the Chief Executive Officer of Gento Group of Companies, has initiated legal proceedings against Ibrahim Mohammad Kargbo, CEO of Komon Tok Media Platform, over alleged defamatory statements made on the platform.
The lawsuit, filed in both the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone, centers on claims that Kamara was linked to Dutch drug trafficker Jos Leijdekkers.
Through his legal representatives Church Street Solicitors in London and Yada Williams & Associates in Sierra Leone Kamara has issued pre-action letters demanding an immediate retraction and public apology.
According to the legal team, Komon Tok falsely alleged that Leijdekkers was financially backing Kamara’s government concession agreement for the Banana Island Project, as well as the US$1.5 billion Seaport Project. The lawyers argue that these claims are baseless, lack supporting evidence, and have caused serious reputational harm to Kamara.
On February 18, 2025, Church Street Solicitors sent a Pre-Action Protocol Letter under the Media and Communication Act (MC53), warning Kargbo of potential legal consequences if he failed to retract the accusations. The letter emphasizes that Kamara has no ties to Leijdekkers and that his business operations are legitimate and transparent.
The legal notice outlines three key demands for Kargbo and Komon Tok:
A full retraction of the defamatory statements.
A public apology to Kamara and Gento Group of Companies.
Payment of all legal expenses incurred by Kamara in addressing the issue.
In a separate legal move, Yada Williams & Associates issued another defamation notice to Kargbo on February 19, 2025. This letter specifically references statements made by Komon Tok on February 7 and 9, 2025, in which Kargbo claimed that Leijdekkers was financing Kamara’s business ventures. The legal team argues that such allegations falsely suggest illegal activities and a lack of financial transparency, damaging Kamara’s business reputation both locally and internationally.
Kargbo has been given 72 hours to issue a public retraction and apology and to cease further defamatory reports. If he fails to comply, legal proceedings will commence in both Sierra Leone and the UK.
