A trailer driver lost his life on Monday evening, March 2, 2026, after he was reportedly struck by a motorbike while attempting to cross the road at Sarola in Freetown.
The fatal accident occurred during the evening hours along the busy Sarola highway, according to eyewitnesses at the scene. Witnesses said the victim was trying to cross the road when a motorbike rider, who was allegedly speeding, hit him instantly.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that the impact of the collision led to the driver’s immediate death. “The rider was speeding and hit the victim instantly,” one eyewitness said, describing the incident as tragic and sudden.
Community members in the area have also raised concerns about the condition of the road where the accident occurred. Some residents pointed to the narrowness and congestion of the Sarola road, particularly the presence of trailers parked along the roadside, as contributing factors to the incident.
According to concerned citizens, indiscriminate parking of trailers has long created difficulties for both motorists and pedestrians using the highway. They argued that the congestion reduces visibility and limits safe movement across the road.
Following the accident, residents strongly appealed to the Government and relevant authorities to take strict and immediate action against the practice of parking trailers along the Sarola road. They emphasized that urgent measures are needed to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
As of press time, there was no official statement from the police or other authorities regarding the incident.
