The National Sports Authority (NSA) officially launched a two-day strategic management retreat on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Fabulous Resort focusing on collaboration and service delivery.

The session aims to streamline operations, strengthen inter-agency partnerships, and accelerate the development of sports nationwide.

The retreat brings together key stakeholders to align the Authority’s goals with the government’s “Year of Delivery” mandate. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Executive Director of the NSA, opened the session by stressing on the power of unity within the sector.

“We can achieve more when we continue working together,” Abdulai said. “The NSA has developed several regulations for Parliamentary approval, including the Sports Development Fund, which will significantly ease financial challenges once ratified.”

He highlighted ongoing projects, such as the installation of an artificial turf in Kailahun, as a testament to the sector’s growth under current leadership.

NSA Board Chairman, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, commended the leadership team and reiterated the Board’s role in ensuring robust financial management and transparency.

Furthermore, Mariatu Rachael Pessima, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Sports, described the retreat as a “positive step for strategic planning” and pledged her committee’s support in positioning the NSA for long-term success.

In her keynote address, the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, officially opened the retreat. She reinforced the distinct yet complementary roles of the Ministry and the NSA.

“The NSA is the cherished baby of the Ministry of Sports,” Minister James-Teima remarked. “We will continue to collaborate for sports development, keeping in mind that the Ministry cannot be the player and the referee at the same time.”

The retreat is expected to conclude with a refined roadmap for the 2026 sporting calendar, focusing on sustainable funding models and the decentralisation of sports infrastructure to reach rural communities.
