Following the ongoing protests against the Koidu Limited Mining Company for improved working condition, the First Lady of Sierra Leone and Leader of the Protest, Fatima Maada Bio has made a hefty allegation of corruption against the Mining Company.

Thursday, 6th March, 2025 marked the third day of protests by workers demanding better working conditions, a movement that gained momentum after receiving an assurance of positive feedback from Koidu Holdings Limited on March 5, 2025.

Following the information received by the First Lady, Fatima Bio, the company promised to formally address the workers’ demands, but upon waiting on their response till the seventh hour, no written response was received as anticipated.

In a bold statement during the protest, the First Lady accused Koidu Limited of stealing from its employees and the country. She highlighted that the company allegedly failed to declare diamonds of 100 carats and above to the government, a requirement imposed by law.

“The people deserve better. Koidu Limited must be held accountable for its actions,” she stated, expressing disappointment that the company’s response had not met the workers’ expectations.

The First Lady also announced her intention to present evidence of the company’s alleged corrupt practices to the Anti-Corruption Commission in an effort to seek justice for the workers and the government.

In the wake of the accusations, the First Lady urged calm among the workers, asking them to continue their peaceful protest while they await a formal response from the company.

The situation remains tense as protesters express their discontent, signalling a potential escalation if their demands are not met soon. The community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that will improve conditions and restore trust within Koidu Limited.
