The Pujehun District Youth Council (PDYC) has joined hands with the Movement for Assistance and Promotion of Rural Communities (MAPCO) to provide substantial microfinance support to young women in the district.
This initiative, which took place at the PDYC Hall, witnessed the distribution of NLe 20,000 among twenty young women from various chiefdoms within Pujehun District.
Under the banner of “The Microfinance Support To Young Women In Pujehun District,” PDYC’s program aims to bridge the financial gap between genders while empowering young women economically. Each beneficiary received NLe 1,000, marking a significant step towards enhancing financial opportunities and social well-being among young women in the area.
Mohamed Kallon, Chairman of PDYC, highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the microfinance support, emphasizing its potential to not only boost the economic growth of the beneficiaries but also to foster gender equality and improve overall family welfare, including health and education levels.
Chairman Kallon urged the recipients to judiciously utilize the financial assistance for entrepreneurial endeavors, emphasizing PDYC’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship among the youth for self-reliance and sustainable development.
Furthermore, PDYC revealed plans for future microfinance opportunities, underscoring its dedication to empowering more young women in the district. Recognizing the importance of financial literacy, the council has incorporated educational components into its microfinance program to equip beneficiaries with essential skills in record-keeping and financial management.
Deputy Youth Chairman Mohamed Koroma emphasized the importance of training prior to loan disbursement, ensuring that beneficiaries are well-prepared to effectively utilize the funds for business ventures. The collaboration of Chiefdom Youth Council (CYC) members further bolstered the success of the program.
Expressing their gratitude, the beneficiaries hailed the initiative as a life-changing opportunity that extends beyond individual success to benefit their families, friends, and the community at large. They pledged to adhere to PDYC’s standards and make the most of the financial support provided.
