24-year-old Abubakarr Sowa, a resident of Bandajuma Sowa, Sowa Chiefdom, Pujehun District, was apprehended on Friday, March 22nd, 2024, during an intensive drug raid conducted across the South Region, a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking.
Mr. Brima Kanneh, the Regional Police Commander South, emphasized the necessity of intensifying such operations to combat illegal drug dealing, which has tragically claimed the lives of many Sierra Leonean youths.
Sowa was apprehended in the Shellmingo community of Bo City in possession of Kush, a potent strain of marijuana. The arrest is part of a broader effort to crack down on drug trafficking in communities across the region.
Assistant Inspector General of Police, Brima Kanneh, revealed that Sowa will face charges for possession of a controlled substance and could potentially face additional charges related to drug trafficking. Transnational Organized Crime Units are on high alert to handle all drug-related cases, ensuring professionalism and thoroughness in their investigations.
Mr. Kanneh emphasized that Sowa’s arrest and the dismantling of various identified cartels serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug activities and the consequences individuals face when engaging in such criminal behavior. He urged the Bo City community to report any suspicious drug-related activities to aid in maintaining neighborhood safety.
