The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have arrested Kandeh Sesay, a suspected fugitive who escaped from custody during the November 26 failed coup attempt.

Sesay was apprehended on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, following intelligence-led operations in the Mount Aureol and Leicester communities, according to police sources.

Police say the suspect was among inmates serving prison sentences at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road before escaping during disturbances linked to the failed coup. He had remained at large since the incident.

The arrest was carried out by officers of the Operation Support Division (OSD), who acted on what police described as credible intelligence.

The Sierra Leone Police said they are currently working with the Sierra Leone Correctional Service to verify the suspect’s identity and determine the next legal steps.

Investigations are ongoing.
