On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, superior and senior police commanders gathered at the Senior Officer’s Mess in Kingtom for a pivotal one-day workshop to gain insights into the implementation of the Sierra Leone Police’s (SLP) Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for 2025-2029.
The workshop aimed to foster collaboration among participants as they reviewed essential interventions crucial for the successful execution of the SDP.
The SDP serves as a foundational roadmap, enabling commanders to efficiently fulfill their mandates as the SLP transitions from a force-oriented to a service-oriented model of policing.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu stated that approximately 80% of the responsibilities outlined in the plan rest with the Local Unit Commanders (LUCs), emphasizing the necessity of a thorough understanding of the required interventions.
IGP Sellu underscored the importance of accountability and progress tracking, announcing the development of a monitoring tool to assess the activities of all LUCs. “As the organization approaches the end of the first quarter of 2025, commanders are reminded of their vital roles in achieving the SDP objectives. Regular reports from commanders are expected in the second quarter, contributing to the compilation of the annual report,” he stated.
Reiterating the significance of their positions, IGP Sellu urged commanders to proactively address issues within their mandates and emphasized that daily police operations should align with the goals outlined in the SDP. He encouraged them to focus on specific key interventions pertinent to their units.
In his call to action, IGP Sellu urged participants to familiarize themselves with the SDP, describing it as a blueprint for shaping operational strategies, enhancing service delivery, and promoting community-centered policing.
Presentations were delivered by AIG Esther Kaintor-Dukuray, AIG Sylvester Momoh N. Koroma, CP Ismail Keita, and other members of the Technical Team that developed the SDP.
