The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has achieved remarkable recognition at a recent 10-day Instructor Development Training Course on Cyber Security held in Kigali, Rwanda, from December 1 to December 11, 2024.

ASP David Mbayo, Head of ICT at the SLP, represented Sierra Leone at this prestigious event, alongside a participant from the National Cyber Coordination Center. The training involved 21 participants from seven countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Seychelles, Rwanda, and Malawi.

The primary goal of the course was to equip participants with the competencies needed to develop lesson plans for cyber security training programs that meet Interpol standards. This initiative is pivotal for enhancing the capacities of law enforcement agencies to address cybercrime effectively.

During the first week, participants underwent assessments to evaluate the knowledge and skills they had acquired. ASP David Mbayo excelled, earning an impressive score of 98%, which positioned the Sierra Leone Police at the top among the participating nations.

This achievement underscores the SLP’s capability to organize cyber security training for investigators. With Interpol’s support, the SLP aims to enhance these programs by incorporating expertise from various countries.

The training was structured as follows:

First Week: Focused on foundational concepts and skill-building in developing cyber security training. The week concluded with a certification ceremony recognizing participants’ achievements.

Commencing on December 9, the second week was dedicated to creating lesson plans and strategizing their implementation in the participants’ respective countries.

The course concluded successfully on December 11, 2024, leaving participants with valuable skills and knowledge.

This training positions the Sierra Leone Police to take a leading role in advancing cyber security initiatives and fostering international collaboration in the fight against cybercrime, as the SLP transitions from a force to a service-oriented structure.
