Councillors of the Port Loko District Council have expressed disappointment following the sudden cancellation of the planned inauguration of a new Chairman and the election of a new Deputy Chairman.
The event was scheduled to take place on Thursday, 19th February, at the District Council Hall. The exercise was intended to officially usher in new political leadership for the council following the death of the former Chairman, Sheku Tejan Saccoh, in October last year.
Speaking at the venue, some councillors described the cancellation as unfortunate, noting that they had made necessary preparations for the important occasion.
In an effort to calm the situation, the Chief Administrator, Author Alieu, addressed guests and councillors, explaining that the notice of cancellation was received as an emergency communication.
According to him, the postponement was due to other pressing official engagements involving the Minister of Local Government and his Deputy, who were expected to be present at the ceremony.

The Chief Administrator assured stakeholders that a new date for the inauguration and election process will be communicated once finalized. Meanwhile, the Council’s Information, Education and Communication Officer, Morlai Karim Bangura, also confirmed the development and reiterated the postponement.
