At the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) headquarters on Tower Hill, Freetown, Hon. Justice Abdullai Masiyambay Bangurah officially handed over his duties to the newly appointed Chairman, Lawyer Emmanuel Koivaya Amara Esq., on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, during a brief yet significant ceremony.

The event was attended by key figures, including the Chief Electoral Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), Mr. Mohamed Kenewui Konneh, who also serves as a Commissioner of the PPRC.

During the ceremony, Hon. Justice Bangurah expressed his confidence in the competence of Lawyer Amara to effectively navigate the complexities of regulating political parties in Sierra Leone.

He highlighted the importance of the recently reviewed Act, which grants the Commission additional powers to oversee political parties, ensuring they adhere to the established regulations.

Mr. Konneh, in his remarks, congratulated and welcomed Lawyer Amara to his new role. He emphasized the challenges inherent in the position but reassured Amara of his ability to overcome them, given his composure and legal acumen. Konneh also pledged his continued support for the PPRC under Amara’s leadership.

As the new Chairman, Lawyer Amara takes on the critical task of regulating political parties in Sierra Leone, a role vital to maintaining the country’s democratic processes. His appointment marks a new chapter for the PPRC, with expectations of strengthened oversight and enforcement of political party regulations.

This transition comes at a pivotal time, with the PPRC poised to implement more stringent regulatory measures to foster a fair and transparent political environment in Sierra Leone.
