The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has announced that it will deploy staff across the country to monitor the lower-level elections of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), set to begin on Saturday, 8th February 2025.
This move is in line with the Commission’s constitutional and statutory mandate to oversee political party activities and ensure compliance with electoral regulations.
In a press release issued on 7th February 2025, the PPRC urged the SLPP leadership and members to conduct themselves in accordance with the SLPP Constitution (11th August 2020), the Rules and Regulations for the Conduct of All Executive Elections (5th February 2021), the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No. 6 of 1991), the Political Parties Act (Act No. 25 of 2022), and the Public Order Act (Act No. 46 of 1965).
The Commission further emphasized the need for the elections to adhere to democratic principles, citing Section 35 (2) of the 1991 Constitution, which mandates that the internal organization of political parties must align with democratic values and not contravene the national constitution.
Additionally, the PPRC called on SLPP members and supporters to follow due process in addressing any concerns related to the elections. It advised them to channel grievances through the appropriate authorities as prescribed by law, ensuring that disputes are handled in a lawful and orderly manner.
