Moinina Korpoi, Principal Accountant at the Ministry of Lands, incurred penalties from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for failing to provide essential documents during the 2022 audit.
The PAC criticized Korpoi for not supplying NRA receipts, application forms, and proof of citizenship records for 400 state land transactions.
Korpoi defended himself by explaining that he only received documents when payments were made via bank transactions, and he was absent during critical periods due to LLB exam preparations. He admitted to delayed responses to auditors and was fined SLE5,000 under Section 36(1) of the Audit Service Act.
Upon his return, Korpoi responded comprehensively but belatedly, after auditors had already finalized their report, preventing any amendments.
In response to his non-compliance, the Committee invoked Section 36(1) of the Audit Service Act, imposing a fine of SLE5,000. The PAC will direct the Accountant General to deduct this amount from Korpoi’s account and transfer it to the Consolidated Revenue Fund.
