In a concerted effort to propel development initiatives and foster community involvement, the Pujehun District Council has successfully concluded its Bi-Monthly District Development Coordinating Committee Meeting.

The gathering played host to an array of essential stakeholders, including representatives from government ministries, the 14 paramount chiefs, civil society organizations, youth and women groups, security agencies, and the media. Supported by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), the meeting aimed to craft the Medium-Term National Development Plan spanning 2024 to 2030, intended to steer Sierra Leone’s developmental trajectory.

Sahr Emmanuel Yambasu, Chief Administrator of the Pujehun District Council, highlighted the statutory obligation binding every local council in Sierra Leone to convene such development coordinating committee meetings, emphasizing their critical role in steering the district’s progress. He urged participants to make decisions that prioritize the district’s developmental needs, echoing the voices of the people of Pujehun District.

Osman Conteh, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in formulating the Mid-Term National Development Plan. Conteh highlighted the successes of the previous 2019-2023 plan, acknowledging its impact on various sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. However, challenges like funding constraints, the COVID-19 pandemic, and geopolitical issues had hindered some aspects of its execution.

Looking ahead, the focus of the 2024-2030 Medium-Term National Development Agenda will center on significant pillars termed the ‘Big Five GameChangers.’ These encompass initiatives such as Feed Salone, Human Capital Development, Youth Empowerment Scheme, Public Service Architecture Revamp, and fostering sustained economic growth via Technology and Infrastructure.

Various stakeholders lent their perspectives, urging alignment with international benchmarks like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union Agenda 2060. Representatives from Civil Society and the Children’s Forum Network in Pujehun District applauded the opportunity to contribute to the national development plan, emphasizing the need for inclusivity and consideration of diverse perspectives.

Paramount Chief Abdul Kadiru Monyaba Koroma expressed gratitude towards the District Council and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, rallying traditional leaders to support government agendas aimed at transforming Sierra Leone for the better.

The climax of the event saw the presentation of the Medium-Term National Development Plan for Pujehun District to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, signaling a step forward in steering the district’s developmental trajectory.

The conclusion of this meeting signifies a concerted effort towards fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and strategic planning in charting a progressive path for Pujehun District and Sierra Leone at large.
