On Monday, November 25, 2024, the Pujehun District Women Development Advocacy Forum (PUDWAF), with support from Purposeful through The MOVE GRANT, officially launched the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

This year’s theme, “Unite to Fight Against Gender-Based Violence,” underscores the global commitment to tackling this critical issue.

During the opening ceremony, Madam Marry Rogers, Chief Executive Officer of PUDWAF, highlighted the importance of this campaign in addressing GBV.

She noted that the 16-day initiative, running from November 25 to December 10, will include activities aimed at raising awareness, educating communities, and mobilizing action to combat violence against women and girls.

Madam Rogers underscored the pressing challenges faced by Pujehun District, where gender-based violence remains a serious concern. Common issues include sexual penetration, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, rape, domestic violence, and female genital mutilation (FGM).

She urged the local community to come together to fight these harmful practices and foster a safer environment for women and girls.

In her address, Madam Rogers appealed for increased donor support, stressing the urgent need for additional funding to address the widespread nature of GBV in the district. She acknowledged the limitations of current resources in reaching and assisting victims and called for collaboration among stakeholders to eradicate these injustices.

As the campaign progresses, PUDWAF and ACT-SL will focus on engaging the community and promoting education to inspire collective action against GBV.

The organizations encourage everyone in Pujehun District to support the rights and dignity of women and girls, ensuring a society free from violence and discrimination.
