The eagerly anticipated Pujehun Town Chief election, originally slated for Saturday, February 10th, 2024, will be held today Saturday, 24th February 2024. This decision came in the wake of the unfortunate passing of the District Officer, Mr. Yousuf Kamara’s mother, necessitating his absence as he attends to funeral arrangements.
According to the Center Chiefdom Admin Clark (CCAC) of Pujehun district, Robbin Junisa, the postponement was a unanimous decision reached after consulting with Paramount Chief Andrew Ibharim Jaiah Kaikai of Kpanga chiefdom. The paramount chief and local authorities expressed their solidarity with Mr. Kamara and deemed it respectful to delay the election until his return, as the local chieftaincy act confers upon the district officer the authority to oversee town chief elections.
Mr. Junisa emphasized that both election candidates, Ensah Kaikai and Mustapha Brima Koroma, were briefed on the situation and graciously agreed to the postponement.
Underlining the importance of inclusivity in the electoral process, Mr. Junisa highlighted that all local taxpayers in Pujehun town possess the right to vote in the upcoming election. He urged the public to exercise patience and assured them of a transparent and equitable electoral process.
Despite the postponement, campaign activities were persist as candidates continue their efforts to engage with voters and garner support for their respective candidacies.
