The Pujehun District Youth Council (PDYC) successfully concluded a one-day general meeting with various Youth Groups and Youth-led Organizations in Pujehun Township on Sunday 5th November, 2023, at the main PDYC Hall on Old Council Road, Pujehun Town. The meeting focused on assessing the efforts of the PDYC, Youth Groups, and Youth-led Organizations in the district’s Youth Sector.
The gathering emphasized the importance of effective coordination, collaboration, communication, and cooperation among the youth groups and organizations. The event also highlighted the significance of the Pujehun District Youth Council Roadmap (2020-2025), a strategic plan designed to enhance youth intervention and implementation strategies across the district.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the PDYC, Mohamed Kallon, enlightened participants about the council’s role as the umbrella body mandated to facilitate, coordinate, and manage young people’s affairs in the district. He emphasized the alignment of PDYC’s initiatives with President Julius Maada Bio’s Big Five Game Changer National Development Priorities for Sierra Leone.
Kallon shared information about ongoing projects aimed at empowering youth, such as the Youth Center’s fencing and rehabilitation, ICT and Internet Infrastructure, Youth Summit, Skills and Entrepreneurship Programs, Youth in Fisheries, Youth Farming, Car Wash Program, Youth Employability, and Scholarship Opportunities. He stressed the importance of collaboration with other youth groups, civil society organizations, media, NGOs/INGOs, and government agencies to strengthen the youth sector.
In his statement, the Deputy Youth Chairman of PDYC, Mohamed Koroma, expressed gratitude to the participants and urged them to continue supporting the youth sector despite financial constraints faced by PDYC. He called upon youth organizations, government, and stakeholders to invest in the youth council’s initiatives.
Representatives from various youth groups and organizations shared updates on their activities, including general cleaning exercises, skills training programs, entrepreneurship initiatives, awareness campaigns, agricultural projects, and scholarship opportunities.
The meeting concluded with participants expressing their gratitude to all supporters of the youth council and pledging to hold monthly partnership and coordination meetings. They appealed to stakeholders, government, and partners to extend their support to PDYC, aiming to strengthen youth development programs within the district.
The event ended on a positive note with group photos and a courtesy visit to the ongoing Car Wash construction site, symbolizing the community’s commitment to youth empowerment and development in Pujehun Town.
