A protest erupted at W.A.M Collegiate School as alumni voiced strong opposition to the alleged unauthorized construction of a mobile phone tower within the school premises. The demonstration, led by Mr. Rugnab Wahadi Bangura, Global Chairman of the WAMC Buddies (Class of the ’70s and ’80s), accused Qcell Sierra Leone of being behind the construction.

However, Qcell Sierra Leone Limited has swiftly denied any involvement in the project. In an official statement, the telecommunications company clarified that it had neither entered into an agreement with W.A.M Collegiate School for the tower’s erection nor was it responsible for its construction.

This clarification aims to set the record straight regarding Qcell’s non-involvement in the matter,” the statement read.

The protest highlights growing concerns over infrastructural developments in educational institutions without proper authorization. Parents, students, and alumni have called for transparency regarding the project and urged school authorities to clarify the situation.

With tensions rising, stakeholders are now demanding accountability from those responsible for the tower’s construction. Meanwhile, Qcell’s statement seeks to distance the company from the controversy, reaffirming its commitment to ethical business practices in Sierra Leone.
