A security guard, Mohamed Bangura, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Center following his recent court appearance on serious charges of office breaking and larceny.

The allegations against Bangura stem from an incident reported on Saturday, 25th January, 2025, when he was accused of unlawfully entering and stealing from the store and inventory unit at the Ministry of Energy’s Electricity Building, located on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.

According to the prosecution, the accused is alleged to have stolen two laptops; a pink laptop valued at Le3,000 and a grey HP laptop, bringing the total estimated value of the stolen items to Le7,000. Reportedly, the stolen items belong to Junisa Baba Fofanah.

During the court proceedings, the charges were read out to Bangura; however, he did not enter a plea. Prosecutor Inspector M. Taylor requested an adjournment to confer with a witness related to the case. Magistrate Sahr Kekura denied bail and ordered Bangura to remain in custody until the next hearing.

The court has scheduled the matter for further proceedings on 5th March, 2025, as the legal process continues to unfold.

The allegations came at a time when security measures in government facilities were under scrutiny, raising concerns about theft and integrity within public sector offices.
