Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. Moinina David Sengeh, joined the Muslim community at Sweizzy in downtown Freetown to break the Ramadan fast on Tuesday evening.
The gesture highlights the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and religious harmony in the West African nation.
Dr. Sengeh, a prominent Christian figure, has been a vocal advocate for President Julius Maada Bio’s key development agendas, often using his social media platforms to share updates on government progress. His presence at the Ramadan gathering underscores his dedication to bridging divides and engaging with all sectors of society.
Known for his signature slogan, “We Will Deliver,” the Chief Minister has built a reputation for resilience and dedication to public service. Born and raised in Sierra Leone, Dr. Sengeh has an impressive academic and professional background. He holds a PhD from the MIT Media Lab, where his research focused on biomechatronics and the design of prosthetic limbs. Before entering politics, he served as a research scientist at IBM Research Africa in Nairobi.
Dr. Sengeh’s career in public service began as Sierra Leone’s first-ever Chief Innovation Officer. He later served as Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education before being appointed Chief Minister following President Bio’s re-election in 2023. Throughout his tenure, he has been celebrated for his philanthropic efforts and commitment to community engagement.
His participation in the Ramadan fast-breaking event at Sweizzy was met with widespread appreciation from the Muslim community and beyond. Many praised the Chief Minister for his willingness to join in prayers and share in the spiritual observance, despite his Christian faith
