As Sierra Leone’s Parliament debates the 2025 national budget, Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma has made a passionate case for the construction of the long-neglected Tonko Limba road.

This critical infrastructure project, he argued, was a promise made by President Julius Maada Bio during his 2023 re-election campaign and is essential for the development of the Tonko Limba Chiefdom in Kambia District.

Hon. Koroma, addressing his parliamentary colleagues, painted a vivid picture of the dire conditions in Tonko Limba. He detailed the daily struggles of farmers, traders, students, and healthcare workers who face impassable roads, particularly during the rainy season. “This is not just about transportation; it’s about the survival and dignity of our people,” he emphasized.

The proposed road construction, he added, would not only connect the chiefdom to economic hubs but also facilitate the delivery of essential services such as healthcare, education, and market access. “It is high time this promise is fulfilled. The people of Tonko Limba have waited long enough,” Koroma stated.

With fierce competition for funding amid the budget deliberations, Koroma urged his colleagues to prioritize the project. He highlighted the potential socio-economic benefits, including boosting agricultural productivity and improving living standards in one of the country’s most neglected regions.

As the debate continues, the Tonko Limba road issue has sparked discussions about equity in national development planning. Koroma’s advocacy has drawn attention to the broader challenges of addressing regional disparities in infrastructure development across Sierra Leone.

Whether the road project will receive the necessary budget allocation remains to be seen, but for the people of Tonko Limba, Koroma’s bold stand offers hope for long-awaited progress.
