“This is totally unacceptable. Don’t use politically motivated lenses to mock the collapse of a building that claimed the lives of innocent people“.

Firstly, I am deeply saddened by the recent building collapse and the profound loss. My heartfelt condolences go out to all those who have lost their loved ones.

However, Hon. AKK, I want you to know that the SLPP is a responsible political party that cares for the lives of the people! You seem to have quickly forgotten your reactions when the government was demolishing unsafe structures along the waterways.

You were one of the people who claimed those structures belonged to opposition party members. Now, you are criticizing the SLPP government for the collapse of the building.

Hon. AKK, do you know whether the owners of those unsafe structures are part of the opposition? If the government takes remedial action, will you not be the same person who casts aspersions that the government is targeting the opposition, even though some of those structures were erected during the APC era? Please, stop the blame game.

I think we should shelve this party-color syndrome and think about Sierra Leone first, rather than engaging in these baseless sentiments of blaming the SLPP government. The collapse of Bailor Barrie’s seven-story building is a tragic reminder of the APC’s failure to enforce building regulations during the EBK administration.

Advice: Sierra Leone belongs to all of us, irrespective of political party colors. Let us come together, address the failures of the past, and focus on present policies to make Sierra Leone better for future generations.

Regarding the issue of tax hikes in Sierra Leone, it is complex and rooted in both historical and contemporary factors. Historically, Sierra Leone has faced economic challenges due to civil conflict, corruption, and mismanagement, which have impeded development and stability.

Following the end of the civil war in 2002, the late President Pa Kabba’s government struggled to rebuild the economy and provide essential services.

Just after the 2007 election, the APC government increased taxes massively to generate revenue necessary for funding public services and infrastructure projects. However, these efforts failed due to poor mismanagement by the past APC government.

The responsibility for the current economic situation involves multiple actors, including successive governments, international lenders, and external economic conditions such as fluctuating commodity prices.

Currently, the SLPP government is focused on improving tax collection efficiency and reducing corruption to boost revenue for human capital development. So please, go back and send condolence messages to those who have lost their loved ones. Thanks!
