Stakeholders are adamant about safeguarding the livelihoods of local farmers amidst reports of extensive crop damage caused by roaming cattle.
Alanson Massaquoi, the councilor representing the area, has been inundated with complaints from community members regarding the negligent behavior of cattle owners. Allegations suggest that inadequate care for the livestock has led to unrestricted grazing, resulting in significant agricultural losses and hindering community progress.
Massaquoi stressed the urgency of the situation, with stakeholders vehemently urging cattle owners to relocate their livestock promptly. Paramount Chief Madam Wokie Jonjo Massaquoi of Galliness chiefdom echoed these sentiments, declaring a zero-tolerance policy towards cattle breeding if it continues to jeopardize farmers’ crops.
The paramount chief emphasized the dire consequences of the cattle’s destructive habits on farmers’ livelihoods, signaling a need for immediate action to protect their interests. Alternative measures will be enforced if cattle owners fail to comply with the relocation order, ensuring the community’s agricultural prosperity.
In response to the injunction notice, Lama Jalloh, head of the, defended their presence in the area, denying accusations of crop destruction by their cattle. Jalloh appealed to local authorities and the community to acknowledge their efforts to maintain distance from farmlands and disputed claims of destructive grazing behavior.
