The Magistrate at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court in Freetown, Magistrate Mark Ngegba has refused the bail application of two Surveyors (Alusine Sesay and Alusine Kamara) who appeared before Court on Saturday, 12th February, 2023, on one count charge of ”conspiracy to commit felony and five other counts charges for collecting money by false pretense, contrary to the Larceny Act of 1816. 

According to testimony before the Court, the accused; Alusine Sesay and Alusine Kamara on various occasions between July to December 2020 allegedly obtained money accumulating to Two Hundred and Forty Million Leones (Le240,000,000) from the Plaintiff identified as Marcella Jones, pretending that they had four acres of land for sale at a location which turned out to be false.

The Plaintiff filed a lawsuit against the surveyors when she realized the land ownership was false.

In her testimony to the court, Marcella Jones said she recognized both accused persons, adding that they were introduced to her by her husband, Richard Jones. She said she had paid the sum of Six Hundred Million Leones (Le600,000,000) to the accused before she realized that they are fraudsters.

The Plaintiff furthered her arguments with receipts from her transaction with the accused where she paid the said amount in installment at her office in Charlotte Street, Freetown.

The case was adjourned to Wednesday, 15th February, 2023 and the Magistrate sent the accused persons to the Pa Demba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.
