A 28-year-old unemployed man identified as Sam Momoh, widely known as “Mende Boy,” has been reportedly remanded to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing before Pademba Road Court No. 1 over the alleged murder of Joshua Mansaray, the adopted son of Sierra Leone’s First Lady.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah during proceedings at the Pademba Road Court following the reading of two serious criminal charges against the accused.

According to court records, the defendant is facing two counts: conspiracy to commit murder and murder, both brought under Section 1 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861, as amended by the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act of 2021.

The prosecution alleges that on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Lodge Junction along Kingharman Road in Freetown, the accused conspired with other unidentified individuals to commit the felony. The allegation states that the confrontation occurred after the deceased, Joshua Mansaray, was accused of attempting to steal a motorbike.

The second count before the court specifically alleges that Sam Momoh murdered Joshua Mansaray at the same location and on the same date.

When the charges were read and explained in court, the accused did not enter a formal plea.

Prosecuting Counsel C.S.P. Tommy B. Zizer Esq. informed the court that the prosecution’s statement bundle had already been served to the defendant. The accused acknowledged in court that he had received the documents.

Momoh appeared before the court without legal representation during the initial hearing.

Magistrate Jah subsequently denied bail and ordered that the accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown pending further proceedings.

The case has been adjourned to March 17, 2026, when the matter will return to court for further hearing.
