According to reports, serious riot is going on in Makeni, Northern Part of Sierra Leone between Police Officers and bike riders.
It is rumoured that the police are firing live bullets as the riot intensifies.Residents are forced to stay in door for their safety.
Makeni City, which is the home town of former President, Ernest Bai Koroma has been a battle ground of recent riots and clashes between security personnel and youths and bike riders.
Last week, the Sierra Leone Police arrested two commercial bike riders in the for allegedly being involved in riotous conduct, throwing missiles, and wounding with intent.
“On today’s date 20th May 2022 at noon, as part of our primary responsibility to Protect life and property among others, upon information received by personnel of Rogbaneh Police Station from members of the public in Makeni, the operations team headed by Inspector Ibrahim Kabba Conteh under the command of LUC Mrs. Esther Kaintor Dukuray (ACP) Makeni Division left the Station for Lunsar Road Makeni and met a large number of disgruntled Bike Riders and one Alhaji Kalokoh of 47 Kainday lane, Makeni who was alleged to have been seriously beaten by some Bike Riders,” the police update reads in part.
The two Suspects, Alusine Sesay and Osman Bangura all of Makeni together with two motorbikes with registration numbers ASJ 858 and ASN 338, police said, are in their Custody helping the Police Investigation at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID ) Makeni.
So far we have not got confirmed information as to what caused the latest riot, but we will continue to monitor events there and break the news as it unfolds.
