On August 8th 2025, Paramount Chief Thomas Bobor Gbappy IV of Kori Chiefdom, Moyamba District, proudly celebrated 50 years of dedicated service and leadership.
Elected as Paramount Chief on the same date in 1975, Chief Gbappy IV is recognized as one of the longest-serving paramount chiefs in Sierra Leone.
In a reflective address during the anniversary celebrations in Taiama Town, the Chief shared significant milestones achieved throughout his tenure. He emphasized the importance of community development and highlighted key achievements such as:
Establishment of a Police Station This development has greatly enhanced security in Taiama, fostering a safer community for residents.
Educational Opportunities: Chief Gbappy played a pivotal role in facilitating the establishment of a Njala University campus in Kori Chiefdom, which has opened doors for youth education.
Healthcare Access: The Chief noted the establishment of multiple medical centers and schools throughout the chiefdom, stating, “Education and health are the pillars of our community’s progress.” These institutions have positively impacted local families, ensuring better access to essential services.
Looking ahead, Chief Gbappy unveiled ambitious plans for further development in Kori Chiefdom. He announced initiatives aimed at:
Improving Infrastructure: Plans to tar all streets and roads in Taiama Township will enhance accessibility and connectivity within the community.
Upgrading Kori Chiefdom: The Chief expressed his vision of elevating Kori Chiefdom to a District Headquarter town, a move that would attract additional resources and promote further development.
