In a significant stride toward fulfilling President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to expanding access to electricity across the nation, the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, handed over two state-of-the-art power plants for installation in Pujehun Township on Saturday 27 May, 2023.

During a ceremony held at the Pujehun District Council School to launch the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Pujehun District June 2023 Campaign, Minister Sesay unveiled the initiative aimed at enhancing the availability of electricity in Pujehun and surrounding areas.

Speaking before a gathering of government ministers, senior party stalwarts, and enthusiastic supporters, Minister Sesay emphasized the significance of the intervention, stating, “The electrification of Pujehun Township is part of President Julius Maada Bio’s vision to provide increased energy access to all district headquarters towns in our country.”

Highlighting the benefits of the project, Minister Sesay disclosed that 250 meters would be distributed free of charge to stakeholders and other essential establishments, while other customers would be able to purchase the meters at affordable prices. This move is expected to facilitate seamless electricity connections and promote equitable access for all.

Furthermore, the Minister assured the people of Pujehun that the power supply would be available round the clock, ensuring uninterrupted electricity to meet the demands of the community.

As a supplementary measure to the electrical power plants, the government will also provide solar panels, which will generate electricity during the day, further augmenting the overall energy supply.

In a symbolic gesture, Alhaji Kanja Sesay officially handed over the power plants to the Honorable PCMP elect PC Victor B. S. Kebbie, representing the paramount chiefs of Pujehun District. This marked the official commencement of the installation and electrification process.

The electrification of Pujehun Township represents a vital step in Sierra Leone’s broader agenda of promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life for its citizens. With increased access to electricity, residents of Pujehun can look forward to enhanced economic opportunities, improved healthcare services, and an overall improved standard of living.
