A thunderstorm that ripped through the Morfindugu Chiefdom in Sierra Leone’s Falaba district on Friday, June 7th has killed approximately 28 cattle.
Sierraloaded learnt that the animals were reportedly being held in secure custody after violating international import regulations.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security, said the District Agriculture Department is collaborating with other local authorities to address the situation. This includes safeguarding the remaining cattle, educating residents about the dangers of consuming meat from unknown sources, and collecting samples for further laboratory testing.
Officials are also urging Falaba residents to refrain from consuming or selling any meat originating from the thunderstorm site.
Authorities are expected to release more information as the situation develops.
