On the morning of Thursday, July 4, 2024, at approximately 10:00 AM, an operation led by Chief Superintendent of Police Abu Bakarr Magona, Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kambia Police Division, along with the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Anti-Smuggle Unit, successfully intercepted four trucks loaded with palm oil products.
The operation team conducted surveillance and patrols around the Gbalamuya Customs border bypass routes and Kambia township. The joint team, which operated discreetly to avoid any distractions, focused its efforts on Shekaya Village, Dixon Chiefdom, Kambia District.
During their patrols, the team intercepted four trucks with registration numbers ARS 415, RC 6863-T, AO-0356, and AVI 898. These trucks, varying from six-tyre to ten-tyre vehicles, were fully loaded with jerry cans of palm oil and had successfully passed through the Rogbaray Joint Security Forces Checkpoint and Madamaya Police Checkpoint en route to Guinea.
Among those apprehended was Lahai Bawoh of Koribondo Road, Bo City, who claimed ownership of two of the trucks. Bawoh is currently in protective custody at the Kambia Police Divisional Headquarters, assisting with the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the four trucks are under police protection as authorities work to identify and apprehend the true owners of the palm oil, who remain at large.
The investigation into this case is ongoing, demonstrating the commitment of the Kambia Police Division and the National Revenue Authority to uphold the enforcement of the export ban and curb illegal smuggling activities.
