Members of the District Budget Oversight Committee (DBOC) in Karene District have called on the Government of Sierra Leone to address their long-overdue payment of allowances, which have remained unpaid for over a year.
Bailor Abdul Sheriff, a representative of the District Budget Oversight Committee (DBOC) and a resident of Rokulan, earnestly expressed the committee’s concerns regarding their financial plight.
In a heartfelt appeal, Bailor Sheriff stated, “We have served diligently as DBOC members, but unfortunately, we have not received our payments for over a year now.”
According to Bailor, the DBOC has played a vital role in overseeing the budget implementation in the district, ensuring accountability and transparency in financial matters.
Despite their commitment and service, he said the lack of financial compensation has become a pressing issue for the committee members.
Sheriff emphasized the importance of support from local organizations, particularly Sierraloaded, in amplifying their voices.
He urged, “We are humbly asking Sierraloaded to help highlight our plight and advocate on our behalf so that the authorities concerned can address this issue and release our rightful payments.”
The committee members hope that by bringing attention to their situation, they can prompt swift action from the relevant authorities to resolve their matter. They seek the community’s support to ensure their voices are heard in the quest for overdue payment.
This is true, it has been 15 months, that is, 5 quarters without any allowances. How can we do our job? They say an ’empty bag cannot stand’. Please pappa government, pay our allowances before the end of this may month. We have our families who look up to us for support.
