The Electoral Commission For Sierra Leone (ECSL) has announced that all village head elections for the Western Rural Districts will be postponed until October.

The ECSL made this announcement on the 1st February.

The said election was slated for the 11th of this month but the ECSL announced that it has been deferred to 21 October this year.

The Electoral Commission said the postponement of the elections is because voter identification cards are not yet available.

The ECSL had announced that voter ID cards will only be issued from the 17-26th March this year ahead of the June 2023 elections.

This means that the date for the village head elections is way ahead of the date of issuance of voter’s ID cards.

Thousands of voters from Macdonald, Sussex, Tombo, Middle Town, Kent, Tokeh and York among other villages in the Rural District are expected to choose their village head in October.
