The Deputy Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) Emily Kadiatu Gogra has accused some pupils who are taking the 2021 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) of assaulting and attacking officials of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in the ongoing examinations in various parts across the country.
She described their actions as not only disgraceful and unacceptable but one aimed at undermining the tremendous investment and contributions made by government to improve the standard of education in the country.
She mentioned the examination malpractice at the Joshua School in the far east of Freetown, the impersonation of two invigilators who were caught taken the exams for pupils, the assault on supervisors during the exams among others.
She said all pupils caught in exams malpractice will have their results seized while criminal proceedings will be instituted against any official caught aiding and abetting examination malpractice in their schools.
According to New Vision Newspaper, Madam Gogra said they had to deploy police officers to rescue exams officials in one centre because of the attack on their lives. She called on parents and stakeholders to ensure their pupils comply with the laid down laws, stressing that anyone caught will face the full force of the law.
